1987年从杭州大学免试进入大连化物所,攻读色谱专业硕士学位,师从卢佩章院士、张玉奎院士。两年后,又以优异成绩直接攻读博士学位,1992年12月毕业获博士学位并留所工作。历任大连化物所助理研究员、副研究员、研究员,大连化物所副所长;现任华东理工大学特聘教授,制药工程与过程化学研究中心主任,厦门大学“材料与生命过程分析科学”国家教委开放实验室学术委员会委员、中国仪器仪表学会分析仪器学会理事。
自1995年以来一直从事中药的化学物质基础研究,承担并完成了国家973项目“方剂关键科学问题的基础研究”中“方剂化学物质基础的研究”课题、中国科学院知识创新工程领域前沿项目“中药黄芪对白血病的基因调控研究及治疗药物的开发”。参加并完成国家自然科学基金重点项目“中药药效组分的指纹图谱分析的方法研究”;作为首席科学家承担“中国科学院知识创新工程”重大项目“基于现代理论和技术的复方中药系统研究”。近年来,在国内外专业杂志上已发表研究报告239篇,其中angew chem int ed, j am chem soc, anal chem, chem commun, j org chem, environ sci technol, j chromatogr等sci论文118篇,已培养博士33名、博士后5名、硕士9名,指导博士生27名、博士后3名、硕士生7名。

学科涉及制药工程、药物化学、有机化学和分析化学等,主要研究方向为:
1.中药系统分离纯化与化学表征技术研究。
2.新型分离材料和分离技术研究与开发。
3.有机合成方法学及其在药物合成中的应用。
4.制药过程化学的研究与开发。
